Bookworm in the Making

If you don't know that I absolutely adore reading then you have the wrong Breelyn and should quit stalking my blog. The rest of you know that I'm the type of girl who will read a book all night, pretend to be asleep when her husband gets up for work and then finish the book after he has left. While Nolan despises reading to the point that new golf clubs could not entice him to read ONE Harry Potter book he likes that I love to read and is very encouraging of my efforts to share my passion with our son. I don't have very many baby books but I have made it a habit to read to Rodney every day. The day he walked over to me with a book then sat in my lap and waited for me to read it to him was one my happiest mommy moments. Then the other day I heard him talking to himself and looked over to see this:

I'm doing something right!!

My 5K Goal

This past summer I've been trying to be more active. Rodney and I go for walks around town, I've been getting on the treadmill more regularly and Jillian Michaels has been kicking my arse via DVD. But I still needed a goal and watching the scale just makes me angry so I decided to quit checking and focus on a fitness goal. A 5K at the end of October. To accomplish this goal I bought these awesome new shoes! I've had knee problems for ages and after a lot of reading I decided to give these weird looking things a shot. I LOVE them!!! I haven't had any knee pain since I've started using them which is beyond amazing. Thanks to these sexy things I managed to run 1.25 miles last night without slowing down to walk. I have NEVER EVER done that! Look out Mantua 5K!!

My Cake Blog

Unless you're new to this blog you know that I love to make cakes. Wedding cakes, birthday cakes, baby shower cakes and cakes for me to sit on the couch and eat all by myself. It's been fun to learn and try new things and it's even helped me to make a bit of money on the side. The problem that I've been running across is how to show potential clients my portfolio. I have all of my photos on Facebook but it's a bit of a pain to friend a client and then have them browse through my photo albums. The only other place I've posted photos is sporadically throughout this blog which is supposed to be more family oriented. Lately I've even had people ask if I have a website. After lots of talking and thinking about it I finally sat down, put the work in and put one together. There are still a few things that I'll probably tweak but I'm excited to finally have a dedicated spot for my cakes. So please, check it out and if you know anyone looking for a cake for a special occasion send them my way.

One of Those Days

For some reason it's one of those days. I don't know why though. The weather was beautiful, the speakers at church were great, we went for a nice walk, I sat in the sun and read for a while and Rodney's starting to get the hang of giving a Hi-5. But still for some reason I'm feeling really blah, almost a little rudderless. I've got laundry, floors, dogs, cooking, fighting with insurance, chasing my beautiful boy and pumping. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. But with all of that I feel like there's really nothing driving me day to day. Don't freak out on me, I'm not depressed, just suffering from a bit of ennui. Nolan asked if I wanted to take something else on but I'm not sure what it would be or even if I could find the time to do it. Exercise was suggested but once again, where's the time? I've been trying to work out but Rodney refuses to leave me alone long enough to work up a decent sweat. I've been looking for another Karate class but can't seem to find any in Tremonton and once again, where's the time to go farther away? Driving to Brigham or Logan turns a 1 hour class into 2-3 hours. If any other stay-at-home moms have any suggestions I'd love to hear them. In the mean time I'll keep looking for something to jump-start my batteries again.

Little Adventurer

My baby is 10 months old! Holy cow! Where did the time go? Granted I've only had him home for 8 months but still... He's getting so big! At his last check up he weighed 13 lbs. 5 oz. He's still so small that the only thing registering on the growth chart is his head and even then it's at the bottom of the scale! But the pediatrician says that even though he's tiny he's doing wonderful! He's finally figured out how to crawl and now he's everywhere! His favorite place to be right now is on the bottom ledge of the coffee table.
He's also in love with the dogs. He freaks out Jinx so anytime he gets close to her she takes off but Atticus is really curious about him. He lets Rodney grab and climb all over him while he just lies still and occasionally gets a lick in.
In the morning while I'm making Rodney's bottle and my breakfast I leave the sliding back door open for the dogs. Rodney has never even looked twice at the open door but when I turned around and couldn't see him in the living room this is what I found.
He'd made it outside and was checking out the patio chair! I laughed and brought him back in and set him down with his toys in the living room so I could finish breakfast. Not 30 seconds later I checked on him and he was gone again!!
He was SO out of there! Halfway across the yard and still moving! What an adventurous little fart! He loves being out in the yard now and as soon as he hears the door open he tries to make a break for it.
He's absolutely in love with food and he's figured out that mom and dad have much tastier food than he does. If we're sitting on the couch with a snack he pulls himself up and starts hollering until we share!
Our newest challenges with him have gone hand in hand with how active he's getting. He's fascinated with the dog food and I've already lost count of how many times I've had to dig it out of his mouth. He's also discovered the stairs but since they're at the end of the hall we usually catch him before he starts climbing. Rodney's new project has been to pull every DVD off the shelf as soon as his mommy puts them all away. At this point I just leave the DVDs in a pile until nap time. I'm coming to accept that my house isn't going to be very clean anymore.
